WorldofO Maps updated: 1800 Norwegian maps

Posted by Jan Kocbach, 12 Dec 2006@22:00

mapreg2.jpgWorld of O Maps has been updated, and now contains all maps from the newly updated Norwegian map register - a total of more than 1800 maps (including some duplicates). The Norwegian mapping group is doing a great job registering maps using a network of people in the regions - going from some hundred registered maps to 1800 registered maps in half a year. Due to problems with base maps for the registration applet not being available after 1/1/2007, there will be a lot of work in this area the coming weeks, and 2500 registered maps before we see 2007 could be a possibility.

Expanding the World of O

yoko.jpgToday another small contribution in spreading orienteering news between people from different countries has been made here at World of O. The blog of the best Japanese runner, Yoko Bamba, and the Russian orienteering page O-sport.ru have been added to World of O. And as most of the ‘World of O’-readers don’t understand much of neither Japanese nor Russian, you can get the news article directly translated to English. The same translation service is now also available for pages with main language of Italian, Spanish, German and French. Note that the translations are far from perfect, but they give information about what the story is about - enough to understand what the maps and pictures in an article are all about…

Speaking of spreading orienteering news; several interesting new pages have been added lately:
