Tove Alexandersson takes us to Kazakhstan!

– There were hard route-choices on every leg, and it was almost impossible to find the perfect routes, the young Swedish superstar of orienteering and ski-orienteering says when asked about her favourite course for “Course of the Year 2012″. The course Alexandersson chose was not a foot-orienteering course – but rather the course from a ski-orienteering race in Kazakhstan!

– My best course this year is a ski-orienteering course. It was the most technical ski-o race ever for me. There were hard route-choices on every leg, and it was almost impossible to find the perfect routes, Alexandersson explains.

The race Alexandersson is talking about is the ski-orienteering World cup long distance race in Kazakhstan (see results here and the map from the second part of the race here).

– On the longest legs I couldn’t plan the entire leg from the beginning so I had to decide where to go and at the same time be focused on taking the right tracks in the crossing. So it was a really fun and challenging.

About “Course of the Year 2012″: The rules are simple: Suggest a course from a competition or training in 2012 using this link, and state the reason why you think this course deserves to be “The course of the Year 2012″. Q: In which race or training did you have most fun in 2012 – and why?

There are plenty to choose between, but I think I choose the middle distance at EOC. I really enjoyed the day. For the first time this season I had a really good o-technical feeling when I was running. And on the end I really challenged my physical limits.

Q: Which is the worst course you run in 2012?

It is hard to decide because I always enjoy the course when I’m competing. But If I have to choose one, it will be NORT stage 2 middle distance in Norway. The beginning of the course was good and nice orienteering but after that the orienteering was really easy and the controls were never far from a track. It is sad to choose a so bad terrain when there are so many nice maps in the surroundings.

Q: What is your favourite map?
I love to run the competitions in Idre Fjäll. It is nice terrain and always very challenging courses, both technical and physical. I think Burusjön is my favourite map there. This is a part of the map (not my course).

Q: Did you set any courses in 2012?
I like to set courses. But in 2012 I have only set for myself for training. I don’t have any on my computer to share.

Q: What are your goals for next year – and how do you change your training and focus in order to reach your goals in 2013?
WOC is my biggest goal and I’m looking most forward to the middle distance. I’m not going to change my training so much.

I will just train more and harder!
