Able to watch the video now, most people had a right skew that made the problem worse — is there something about the angle that makes one ‘pull’ over more?

I concur, and based on my visit afterwards the flag was 30m south of where the triangle was marked on the map. Not a huge distance but it certainly didn’t help.

Unfortunately, I think the start point was positioned incorrectly, in the gap in the fence to the south, which explains why nearly all the the women made mistakes there.
