13:47 on 5000 meter for Michiels

Belgian orienteer Yannick Michiels ran a strong 5000 meter in 13:47 in IFAM in Oordegem on Saturday. Michiels has inched closer and closer to the top orienteering elite in sprint orienteering the last years – and his strong times on the track indicate that he can take another step this season.

Michiels had his best World Championships result so far at the World Championships sprint in Venice last year with a 7th place – but the potential is there for a medal in 2015.

Challenge to the readers: Which orienteer on top level today has the strongest time on the track on 5000 meters? Which orienteer from the “good old days” has the fastest time on the track on 5000 meters? Mårten Boström has 14:21 according to his bio – Norwegian Yngvar Christiansen has 13:45 from back in the 80’ies. Andrey Khramov has 14:05 according to this page.
