Lisbon Orienteering Meeting 2016: Maps and Results

liom2016

Daniel Hubmann and Cat Taylor each took one stage win in the first big orienteering weekend in Portugal this past weekend – Lisbon International Orienteering Meeting (LIOM 2016).

The major part of the world’s orienteering elite turns to Portugal and Spain for training and competitions the coming weeks – with Portugal O-Meeting next weekend being the largest event with most prestige.

for Hubmann this was the first race competing for his new Finnish club KooVee

LIOM 2016 consisted of two races on Saturday – an urban middle distance and an urban sprint (WRE) on Saturday and a WRE long distance race on Sunday. Daniel Hubmann and Marika Teini won the opening sprint race – for Hubmann this was the first race competing for his new Finnish club KooVee.

In the urban middle  Saturday afternoon Tiago Gingao Leal managed to beat Hubmann with 9 small seconds – here Galina Vinogradova won a clear victory in the women’s class (Comment: Urban middle is one of the alternatives for a new discipline in an urban WOC – a good idea?). In the final long distance Fredrik Bakkmann showed great form and won the men’s WRE long distance race 22 seconds ahead of Hubmann – with more than 6 minutes down to Olli-Markus Taivainen in third. Cat Taylor won the women’s long distance ahead of Marika Teini.

  1. The level of organization was really good! Thanks for organizers! Just one small remark about so called ‘Long’. Actually it was prolonged Middle race.
