When I lived in Tokyo I got the opportunity to run in that terrain – and it was unique! The mixture of open black sand-fields, patches with 2-m tall grass, and volcanic rock-formations that made the contours random in a way erosion and glaciation does not made it a biggly fun challenge. If anyone gets to Tokyo a visit to Izu Oshima is well worth a day! (The last post on my course was in a depression inside an area of deep green – so there was a 200-m horizontal climb in and out through thorny bushes tied together with vines but that was also an adventure…)

Leaning backwords in my comfortable chair and judging alll the nominated courses I go for leg 3 in Jukola 2025. Many long legs with several route choises in combination with shorter and directional changing legs split the crowd to challenge the individual.
