Today’s leg in Route to Christmas 2023 is an intriguing leg from the men’s course in the Junior World Orienteering Championships Long distance in 2023. Lots of contours and many possible choices – what would you choose?

As you can see there is a wide spread of runners, with the best routes being run fairly straight with a curve sharply to the rigth after around 1/6 of the leg – exploiting a flatter area with some small paths. Looking at the four fastest alternatives (several ran the fastest alternative, green below, faster than the second fastest in yellow below), you can see more clearly why right could be a could choice.
