PWT Verona: Maps and Results


Victories went to Øystein Kvaal Østerbø ahead of Mikhail Mamleev and Jan Troeng in the mens class and to Sarka Svobodna ahead of Uotila Ulrika in the womens class in the first race of the Adriatic meeting 2009 – which is also a PWT race. Below you find maps and results.

Press Release

More than 200 competitors from 11 different nations followed the invitation of event director Gabriele Viale and his team to take part ad the 3rd International Adriatic Meeting. It started Friday evening with a night town sprint in the famous city of Verona.

The competition area was right in the heart and historical center of Verona with start and finish beside the arena. Inspired by the excellent atmosphere and the unique scenery everybody gave his best.

In the elite classes many top runners fought for the first positions. The silver medallist of 2007 of the JWOC in Australia Sarka Svobodna from Czech Republic was first lady in the finish and nobody was able to beat her on the 2,6km long course . Second place went to Ulrika Uotila from Finnland and a great 3.place for the 16 years old Julia Shutkovskaya – already medallist at EYOC in Serbia this year.

In mens competition the lead was changing very often till the PWT Winner of 2005 and sprint specialist Oystein Kval Osterboe marked a time which nobody could beat. 22 seconds behind Italians bronze winner of WOC 2009 over the classic distance Misha Mamleev and Jan Troeng from Sweden. The incredible time for Oystein for 4km and . controls was 15.54.

Again this year after the great successes of the last edition, the Veneto Region will welcome a big international sport event namely the Orienteering Adriatic Meeting – Park World Tour. Three days of races are in program: Friday 13th November 2009 the race will be in the beautiful frame of Verona by night; Saturday 14th November will be the turn of Vicenza to host hundreds of athletes of international importance. In the morning will be the students of Vicenza to compete in partnership with the Pugliese students of Bari (South Italy).

The last day will take place in Venezia, a unique picturesque city which doesn’t need any presentation. The best top runners will be present as well: the Russian Misha Mamleev, the Norwegian Oystein Kvaal Osterbo, Mathias Bjugan and the Swedish Troeng Mats. For the women we can greet the Finn Anni-Maija, the Swiss Babel Lucie and the Italian Nicole Scalet.

Sport and Tourism is a winning combination for Veneto: our aim is to promote the territory through the creation of links between sport and local products of the famous Italian cuisine in order to let people know the best sides of our territory and its culture.

Besides the races and a short visit of the surrounding areas, we will offer our guest a wine tasting of a selection of local wine produced by Vini Cris. A visit of the wine cellar is also available for those interested. And finally the whole group is invited to celebrate together at the Pasta-party with the live performance of the popular Nick Manfredi a particular occasion to convey the emotion of being with Pwt-orienteering.
