EYOC 2012: Live Friday, Saturday, Sunday!

eyoclogoWith live GPS tracking, webTV/radio and live results this years European Youth Orienteering Championships in France should be a very interesting competition to follow. EYOC is the step before the Junior World Championships were the Gueorgiou’s and Niggli’s of tomorrow get the first opportunity to test themselves against competitors from all over Europe.

Thierry Gueorgiou had his first big victory in EYOC back in 1995 – this was the first time the orienteering world got a real look at this exceptional orienteer.

– As I now look back, my victory in the EYOC 95 was the real start of my orienteering career and therefore always had a special taste, Gueorgiou says. -That’s also why I have much respect for this competition which gives the first big emotions to young orienteers.

Program

EYOC is open for competitiors from 15 to 18 years, and competition is done in 15-16 and 17-18 categories. Several nations do only send athletes in the 17-18 classes. EYOC starts on Friday with a sprint – continues with a long distance on Saturday and finishes off with a relay on Sunday.

  • Friday June 29th: Sprint from 11:00 CET
  • Saturday June 30th: Long from 09:00 CET
  • Sunday July 1st: Relay from 10:00 CET

The forest is made up of both deciduous and evergreen trees. There are many wet areas and some steep slopes with many rocks and cliffs.

Live services

The organizers promise GPS-tracking by TracTrac, live webTV (4 cameras – of which one in the forest), webradio and live results  (3 splits for each category). You find all the live services at the EYOC live webpage:
