The Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) 2012 is organized in Kosice, Slovakia from July 8th until July 13th. The terrain used is varied and interesting (see below for details): Partly karst terrain (long) and partly continental terrain (middle / relay). The sprint is a city sprint in Kosice.

Terrain and maps

Long

The terrain for the long distance will be especially interesting. The Kosice karst terrain is mostly very runnable compared to the extreme variants you find in parts of Slovenia or Croatia. However, the semiopen and dense areas can be very tricky – so the orienteering should be very interesting. On the slopes of the depressions there are rocky fields and cliffs. There should be both route choice options and tricky short legs in the courses.

Middle and Relay

The terrain for middle (to the left below) and relay (to the right below) will offer steep slopes in part and especially for the middle distance there will partly be rich, intricate terrain details for earth slides and corrosion and marshes. The middle distance will offer interesting technical orienteering, while the relay area offers some route choices along with fast running.

Sprint

The sprint is a typical city sprint in a flat city – but even if there are no height differences there may be interesting routechoices due to the nature of the city.

Live services

There will only be live results with a few radio controls at each race. No live audio or GPS tracking is planned.
