Today’s edition of January Classics is a ultralong race from 2006: The Norwegian Championships ultralong 2006. This is a different kind of “Classic” than the good old WOC races from the 80ies and 90ies – but still a nice course which has many of the qualities of the good, old classics.
Thanks to Dag Aalvik for the tip (– I remember this race as one of the worse things I’ve been through, Dag writes in the e-mail).
This race was a tough one with several long route choice legs – I remember it well from participating myself. Several times you had to choose if you should go all the way down to the road or continue up in the marshes. See one of the legs as a WebRoute below.
- Full map with course
- PS! As far as I can see from the invitation, this year’s Norwegian Championships Ultralong is organized from the same arena as an open race (i.e. open for all nationalities) as part of Fjord-o 2014 – please correct me in the comments if I am wrong. This sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime possibility to experience something like the above again (BTW, I did it already in 2006 – once-in-a-lifetime is probably enough:).
Webroute: 2-3
First take a look at the map above – and then draw your own route using the ‘Webroute’ below. Think through how you would attack this leg, and draw the route you would have made. Some comments about why you would choose a certain route are always nice for the other readers.
