Today’s edition of January Classics is a tip sent in by Martin Hoset: The district championships long distance of middle Norway (Midt Norsk) 2009. – This is maybe not a classic, but it is a nice long distance race from 2009, Hoset writes.
– This race is maybe the most fun long distance race I have run – with good map, fun course and very nice terrain, Hoset finishes.
A question for the comments: Where would you run on the long leg from 11 to 12? Over the top or around to the left or around to the right? And why? And how much up would you run if you would go around?
Complete map:
The route choice depends on how runable the side hills between 2 & 3 was! If quite nice, then I would go left, hit the path closer to 3 than 2, follow it to the highest point then pass through #2 before rounding the hill to the north of that control.
This saves about 50-60 m climb (approximately equal to 300-400 m distance) compared to an over-the-top choice which would have to start by going 100m straight east.
Either route choice ends by using the dangerous marsh/pond as an attack point.
The other question is, if the light yellow is as slow as it should be…
1:12500 is an interesting scale. Reason?
Did it for a training once to shrink a long course on a 10.000 map onto A4 paper but did not want the symbols to be too small in 15.000. The competition was run on a laser print-map.
