3.8 km: No good solutions?

The toughest leg of the year? Good luck finding a solution you are really happy with on this one. The long leg to the third control in the men’s course at the Tasmania World Cup race long distance is not an easy one. Try to solve it yourself below!

The LONG leg

The leg is first provided without routes – you may take a look at it and think about how you would attack this leg (if the image is too small, you may click on it to get it larger).

Webroute

Next you can draw your own route using the ‘Webroute’ below. Think through how you would attack this leg, and draw the route you would have made. Some comments about why you would choose a certain route are always nice for the other readers.

When the athletes start putting up their routes we will try to do a real analysis on this one. For now just a few alternatives here. I didn’t find any good ones though. Did you find a good one? Any of these – or another one?

Update: According to Kenneth Buch (see Tweet below), the two fastest on the leg, Matthias Kyburz and Fredrik Johansson, went left similar to the D option (there are several micro route choices here, so it is probably not exactly the D option). Lundanes and Dæhlie went C-A and then straight over the last hill. As GPS-watches are not allowed in World Cup races, we will probably never get to know exactly where on the leg the time was won & lost.
