The last long leg down just before the finish – being the same in both the men’s and women’s course – is a very interesting route choice leg. With the World Orienteering Championships Long courses being publiched some hours before the best runners start, this is your perfect chance to try out your skills on the long leg in the womens course.

Next you can draw your own route using the ‘Webroute’ below. Think through how you would attack this leg, and draw the route you would have made. Some comments about why you would choose a certain route are always nice for the other readers. Open in a separate window to draw with full screen or in case it does not show off below.
Some of the main routechoice alternatives are shown below. Going around to the right (B, green, 2400 meters) has around 50 meters climb, going straight (A, red, 1650 meters) has around 115 meters climb and going to the left (C, blue, 2050 meters) has nearly 100 meters climb. Probably going straight should be fastests, but if you are a very fast road runner or very tired, going around to the right could be faster. What do you think?

Route to Christmas series
