Course of the Year 2025: 10, 9, 8 …

Over the following days we will count down from 10 to 1 in the Course of the Year 2025, and present the “lucky voters” along the way. In 10th place we find the World Championships (WOC) Long distance, in 9th place we find the JWOC 2025 Sprint Relay and in 8th place we find OOCup Stage 4 – three great courses with very different qualities, and with very different challenges for the course setters.

10. place: WOC Long distance is a course at the very highest level, where many different aspects, including TV and spectators, have to be handled while still providing challenging and fair orienteering. The course setters handled this in an excellent way, providing courses that worked well on TV and still were a real challenge for the athletes.

9. place: At JWOC sprint relay the course setter has to handle one of the largest sprint relay fields of the year, providing safe courses with equal forkings while still making sure the orienteering challenges are first class. Again the course setters did a great job, also providing very interesting TV.

– This is exactly how to safely organize an event with more than 70 relay teams at the start… safety at first, equal forks, route choices, great work, and super quality event.

8. place: OOCup is a multi-stage event in one of the most intriguing terrains I have run in, where the course setter is challenged to provide interesting and fair courses for all categories. The M21E course provided a very nice mix of route choice legs and tricky fine orienteering.
