World Cup winner in this season’s last World Cup race sprint, Vojtech Kral, chooses his favourite 2017 course – and talks about other great courses from this year while he is at it.
Read on for a long interview with Czech upcoming star Vojtech Kral – a runner who climbed onto the top of the podium in the World Cup the first time in 2017. This interview is part of the “Course of the Year 2017″ contest organized by World of O. In the introduction article you can suggest YOUR favourite course for “Course of the Year 2017″ – there are prizes to be won worth more than 4500 Euro.
Q: What was the best course you run in 2017 – and why?
The best course I’ve run this year is WOC middle distance. Of course the terrain and reduced visibility helped course setter a lot, but still the course didn’t have a blank parts and runners had to focus all the time.

Q: Usually the courses in interesting terrains are the ones you remember. But can you remember a very good course you ran in “boring” terrain this year?
Choosing boring terrain is difficult, everytime you can find something tricky. The course setter at the World Games middle distance had a difficult task, but managed to prepare interesting courses in a small forest with many paths and green areas.

Q: What is the worst course you ran in 2017?
This year’s WOC sprint qualification was probably the worst course I have run this year. For an event such as a World Championships, it was way too easy.

Q: What is the most interesting course you ran (or saw) in your own home country in 2017?
The best course I have run in Czech Republic this year is the long distance championships final. Tough course, bad weather conditions and nice terrain made it a top event.
Q: Did you set any courses in 2017? If so, is it possible to share the best (in your opinion) with World of O’s readers?
I was a course setter at Czech cup this spring. This M21E is probably my best course this year.
Q: What is the most interesting routechoice leg you remember from 2017? Did you take the right choice?
As the most interesting routechoice I’d pick WOC sprint final men 10th control. I haven’t picked the best one :)
Q: Thanks a lot for the interview – and good luck for next season!
