WC: Heading into the forest alone …

liveaudio.gif… coming back in groups?
Update 12:00: Simone Luder has had an incredible start, and is more than 2 minutes before Emma Engstrand at the first radio control. Martina Fritschy is in the lead in the finish, but had lost 4 minutes to Simone already at the first radio. In the mens class, Peter Öberg has the lead at the first radio, two minutes before Johan Modig. Johan Modig lost 25 minutes(!) between 5km and 10 km, and is now out of the fight. Instead Finnish Jörgen Wickholm is in the lead in the finish.

Follow the action at the live text feed from the organizers:

Update 11:08: Live results are working again. Martina Fritschy and Johan Modig in the lead at the first radio control. Many runners are making big mistakes.
Update 10.47: Radio control positioning:

  • Women: after 3 km, 5.5 km and prewarning 500 meter before the finish. The best time after 6 runners past at 3 km was 35.08 – Amelie Chataing.
  • Men: radio 1 after 5 km, radio 3 after 10 km. These will be used for all runners. Radio 2 is after 6.5 km and radio 4 is after 11.5 km. The latter two will only be used for the top runners. After 20 runners passed 5 km, Johan Modig was in the lead with 38.48.

Update 1020: Live audio is not working due to problems with a firewall. According to information from the organizers, they think they will not manage to fix live audio today.

Live results are now working, and results are ticking in. The time differences are big, and it looks like many runners are making many mistakes.

Original story:
Follow the WC long distance live from 0900 at the official web site of the WC final and find out for yourself. The terrain is so difficult, that even the best runners will make errors. This fact, along with the bad runnability in parts of the terrain, makes the terrain very good for grouping runners. And running away from somebody is not exactly easy here..

On the other hand, the difficult terrain will make this long distance very interesting, as even a seemingly secure lead can dissolve quickly in this terrain.

Stay tuned for a very interesting race today. The live audio worked very well yesterday – and the speaker team promises to try to get more interviews with the runners as they come out from the forest today. There are several radio controls, but there will be some delay for some of them, as they are not all 100% online – they are actually partly manually operated. The two first radio controls for the men and the first radio control for the women will be manual only, due to the topology of the terrain.

Can Thierry take another one? Will Simone show that she can handle this difficult terrain as well?

The 10 best women start between 1101 and 1119, and the 10 best men between 1122 and 1140.
