Locarno sits at the northern tip of Lake Maggiore, offering the kind of fast, technical sprint terrain that rewards sharp decision-making: narrow alleys, sudden direction changes and a maze of passages through the historic old town.
Reigning overall World Cup champions Simona Aebersold (SUI) and Kasper Fosser (NOR) are both running in Locarno. Aebersold, who has now claimed the overall title in both 2024 and 2025, describes this as her best winter of training ever and calls the home World Cup “always something special.” On the men’s side, Tino Polsini – who won the final KO Sprint at the 2025 World Cup Final – is also among the favourites after strong terrain-specific preparation. Max-Peter Bejmer, who took the men’s overall title in 2025, has chosen to focus on forest distances this season and is not competing this weekend.
