Short interview with Simone Niggli
Q: What was the best course you run in 2012 – and why?
I really liked the map and course of EOC long distance in Mora. The terrain of Skattungby was fantastic and demanding and I really got an orienteering flow during the race.
I could really enjoy the competition even though it was an important one
I could really enjoy the competition even though it was an important one and it was one of the first international races after my baby break.
Q: In which race or training did you have most fun in 2012 – and why?
In october we had a national competition in S-chanf (valley of Engadin, southern part of Switzerland). It was a new orienteering place for me, and the forest was extremely nice. Fast running and varying terrain meant a highlight in the national season.
[Editors note: This national race was organized the same day and in the same area as JEC 2012 – a terrain and competition which got a lot of praise from the competitors. For the JEC 2012 H20-course, see here ]
Q: What is the race you look most forward to in 2013?
Long distance in Vuokatti and O-Ringen in Boden.
Q: What are your goals for next year – and how do you change your training and focus in order to reach your goals in 2013?
My goals are WOC and O-Ringen next year. Most important is to stay healthy, and to get a good feeling for the Finnish forests. As a family we will make a Nordic trip which starts in late April in Sweden, and goes on to Finland in June. After WOC we will move on to Boden and I really look forward to these Nordic months with my family.
