WoO Christmas O-Quiz: Day 15 2012

routeto_15_s
Can you guess which country this map is from? The WorldofO Christmas O-Quiz gives you one map sample each day from December 1st until December 24th. You get one point for each day you guess the correct country for the map sample – can you make it all the way to 24?

Fill out your name, e-mail address and your guess for the country below! For a given day, only answers given between 05:00 CET and 23:59 CET on that day will be counted in the overall score. That means that even if you fill out the form on a later day, your answer will not be counted… You are only allowed to answer ONCE each day!

Correct answer yesterday: Norway

My holidays have started, so this is written before you started guessing – so no summary of the guesses (I might manage some of the other days though – depending on Internet connection). This map is from Myrkdalen in western Norway – not far from Voss (and also not very far from Bergen where I live). Nice area with quite good runnability and marvelous views – but the other part of the map is a lot more interesting – in the diffuse green areas between the diffuse marshes there you can easily loose many minutes – as one of my friends from abroad noticed when visiting once….

Update: Got around to reading quickly through some comments anyway. Looks like this was a quite tricky one – quite a few choosing Sweden. For those familiar with different types of Norwegian terrain, it was not an impossible one at least (even without finding the actual map)… Some comments from early in the day:

  • I’d think Sweden (looks a bit like Idre) or Norway. But maybe Norway is too easy, so I’d guess Sweden. (Checking my idea through Norwegian/Swedish maps archives? Unfortunately, I’m not that crazy :). [Guess: Sweden. Sorry Ivan – that was your first mistake. We even drove past a few kilometers away, and I think I even offered you the maps for training… ]
  • Looks like northern/western Norway… [Guess: Norway. Thanks Terje, that’s right – finally:)]
  • I hope I am right today! After so many misses :-) [Guess: Norway. Yes Hanne!]
  • When i looked at the map it looks like Norway, but it couldn’t be so easy. Perhaps Sweden then, but you can’t fool us like yesterday. It was Myrkdalen Norway [Guess: Norway. Thanks Lars, that’s right. I’m not trying to fool you :)]
  • Noway it could Norway [Guess: Norway. Thanks Saku!]
  • Is it any trap? Norway seems the only possible answer [Guess: Norway. Thanks sim – no trap today!]
  • Looks like Sweden, maybe Idre? [Guess: Sweden. Nope Jonas, this is closer to the beautiful Fjords!]
  • I guessed wrong yesterday (Czech Republic) and I am furious. I can not miss an other day! [Guess: Norway. Thanks Tibor, correct today!]
  • Must be Norway. Have not seen the map, but I have ran Nordvestgaloppen and the terrain was similar. [Guess: Norway. Thanks cha – Nordvestgaloppen has been close to this place, yes]
  • I have a secret forest in the New Zealand mountains that would look a bit like that, but not with all those marshes or that little house… and if somebody HAD mapped it without telling me I’d be very annoyed! [Guess: Norway. Thanks Nic – you are right! Your secret place sounds nice as well…]
  • Reminds first of Sälen, or Idre Fjäll. But mapping style looks more norwegian. Could be both i guess :/ [Guess: Norway. You hit it again, Tatam – on your way up!]
  • Looks like one of those famous Norwegian mountain terrains. I dare to say it’s somewhere above Voss… [Guess: Norway. Thanks Aron – correct!]
  • Must be Sweden with those stacked form-lines that you don’t see anywhere else. [Guess: Sweden. Thanks Markus – but wrong this time…]
  • Yesterday I (once again…) picked the neighboring country, but not today: Myrkdalen, Voss, June 11th 2011 (Yes, I was there…)! [Guess: Norway. Thanks Toto – I knew you would get this one..]
  • Wasn’t that the map where Thierry did that power-pole thing? :) [Guess: Norway. Thanks Tobi – but i don’t think so..?]
  • Pure wilderness, few features, but at the same time good base maps for the contours, plus challenging courses – reminds me of 5dagars in Norrbotten. For the Scandinavian countries you had to choose a tricky map. Question is: which country of Laponia? [Guess: Sweden. Thanks Ulis, but Norway it is!]

I hope many of you managed this one – anyway here is the overview over tips:
