Jukola 2014: All You Need to Know!

jukola2014

22:00 CET on Saturday Jukola  starts – the largest orienteering relay event in the world. 9 hours earlier at 13:00 CET the women start their relay – the Venla relay. Here you find all the information you need about the  Jukola and Venla relays. This is the 66th edition of the Jukola relay and the 37th edition of the Venla relay.

[Note! As of June 14th 10:00 CET the main WorldofO.com page is down. Server people are working hard to fix it. For now follow WorldofO at Twitter, @WorldofO and @WorldofOLive]

Jukola 2014 is organized  in the Rytökylä area in Vehmersalmi, city of Kuopio.

  • Live results
  • There is GPS Tracking on all legs. Live GPS Tracking will only be shown on the TV feed – there is no separate tracking offered. On some legs there will be little tracking shown so that later runners will not see the forking, as usually.

Map and terrain

The terrain consists of four distinct areas of hills and a narrow stretch of water. The Finnish word “vuori” at the end of local names like Huuhanvuori and Nousuvuori means a rather high hill. Consequently, the total climbs on the courses exceed the average values in the previous Jukola and Venla relays. The terrain in general offers easy running, but the courses may be strenuous due to soft ground in places. Occasionally there are slippery rocks hidden under a moss cover. There are also a couple of minor roads in the terrain.

  1. The running orders will be published on the Kuopio-Jukola website at 6 pm on Friday 13 June.

  2. The winners time will be slower than estimated because of wet terrain. 15 minutes in Venla relay and 10 minutes in Jukola. According course setter.
