World Cup Final 2014: All You Need to Know!

[Sprint Relay Friday 15:00 CET / Middle Saturday 12:30 CET / Sprint Sunday 13:31 CET] The World Cup 2014 will be decided in Switzerland this weekend – starting with a mixed sprint relay on Friday as part of the unofficial sprint relay World Cup, continuing with a middle distance on Saturday and finishing with a city sprint on Sunday finalizing the individual World Cup.

The winner of the individual World Cup in the men’s class is already decided. Swiss Daniel Hubmann has a lead of more than 350 points to Olav Lundanes (Norway) and nobody can even theoretically beat the Swiss star on home ground. There is a tight fight for second between Lundanes, the Ukraine Oleksandr Kratov and the Swiss runners Matthias Kyburz and Fabian Hertner.

In the women’s class Tove Alexandersson is nearly as dominant as Hubmann, but with a lead of 269 points to Swiss Judith Wyder and 300 World Cup points as a maximum score in the two remaining World Cup races Wyder has a small theoretical chance of taking the overall World Cup from the Swede. Lena Eliasson (Sweden) and Helena Jansson (Sweden, not starting this weekend) are next on the list, but must do very good races to beat Wyder in the overall . In the unofficial sprint relay World Cup Denmark is the current leader with a 30 point lead over Sweden and a 50 point lead ahead of Switzerland. Although Denmark is the favourite with Klingenberg, Lassen, Bobach and Alm in the team, this may be a close fight! Sweden starts with Olsson, Bergman, Leandersson and Eliasson whereas Switzerland has Friedrich, M Hubmann, M Kyburz and Gross in the first team.

• The terrain is mostly flat with some undulating hills. Mix between park with small forest parts, botanical garden, playgrounds and a residential part. Should give fairly good GPS tracking.
• Leg 1 and 4 (women): 3.6 km, 40 meter climb, 25 controls
• Leg 2 and 3 (men): 4.3 km, 50 meter climb, 28 controls
