Today’s leg in Route to Christmas is a long leg from one of this year’s best long distance courses: The Swedish Championships long distance. The chosen leg is the 7th leg which was suggested by Ruslan Glebov in the interview made with Glebov in relation to Course of the Year 2018.
PS! I still need some good legs with good GPS-data (GPSseuranta or Livelox) for the last few days until Christmas. Alternatively if you have good legs in interesting/exotic terrain/countries without GPS-data, a good analysis by the course setter can replace GPS-data, but then I’ll need some more data from you. Any good suggestions are highly appreciated, please send them to jan@kocbach.net.

Webroute
Next you can draw your own route using the ‘Webroute’ below. Think through how you would attack this leg, and draw the route you would have made. Some comments about why you would choose a certain route are always nice for the other readers.
Then you can take a look at how the runners have solved this leg below (note that the times given are unofficial GPS-times and not official split times). Gustav Bergman was clearly fastest on this leg, more than a minute faster than the second fastest Martin Regborn. Based on the comparisons below, it seems clear that you lose some time by running straight (estimated to 40-50 seconds), i.e. you should use the road. But it also looks like you should not use the road too much, although you would probably lose less time by this choice. Finally, running all the way to the left or right is definitely too long – and no good idea!

Route to Christmas series
The Route to Christmas series is a pre-Christmas tradition at World of O – giving the readers the opportunity to do one Route Choice Challenge each day from December 1st until December 24th. Thank you for the Route to Christmas maps and routes. They really are a best of the year. Its fascinating and addictive and makes me want to travel all over Europe orienteering!
