Race details
All three races will be organized in Idre Fjäll, Sweden – see an old map of part of the competition area below. The long distance will be organized in the north-western part of this old map and the middle distance and relay in the south-eastern part (including some areas outside this old map, see embargoed areas here).
See also this video which gives an impression of the terrain:
Long distance
The terrain is described as having hilly topography with moderate to steeper slopes. Both the runnability and visibility is good to very good. Very few roads and paths in the area. Challenging mountain terrain, altitude 630 – 880 m a s l. The competition area is one big slope with generally good to very good visibility. Hilly and physically demanding forest with mainly pine trees but some areas with spruce tree which reduces the visibility. The ground is broken from time to time which reduces the runnability but overall it is good to very good. The competition area is inside a nature reserve which means no clear-cut areas and hardly no green areas at all. Some areas are very detailed with a lot of features.
- First start women 09:30 – last start women 13:50
- First start men 09:50 – last start men 15:30
- Quarantine closes 12:50 (expect maps/GPS-tracking to be available around this time)
Middle distance

Most of the competition area is inside a nature reserve. Mainly coniferous forest, no clear-cut areas and hardly any no green areas at all. Some areas are very detailed with a lot of features. The terrain is between 700-900 meters m.a.s.l.
- First start men 12:10 – last start men 16:45
- First start women 14:15 – last start women 18:05
- Quarantine closes 14:50
Relay
The terrain description is the same as for the middle distance – except the terrain is between 700 and 800 m.a.s.l., with the same arena.
- Mass start men 13:07
- Mass start women 15:02
World Cup 2021
The 2021 World Cup consists of three rounds; Neuchatel (Switzerland), Idre Fjäll (Sweden) and Cansiglio (Italy), see below. The World Orienteering Championships, organized in Czech Republic, is not part of the World Cup.
World Cup standings
With two sprint races done in the World Cup and four forest races to come (two in Idre Fjäll now in August and two in Cansiglio, Italy in September/October), a lot can change in the overall World Cup. However, several of the top placed athletes are typical all-rounders; Matthias Kyburz leading the men’s World Cup won the WOC Middle distance and third placed Kasper Fosser won the WOC Long distance. In the women’s class multi-talent Tove Alexandersson leads the World Cup – and is on track for yet another overall World Cup victory.

TracTrac does not work at all – as always. Unbelievable!!
Why are organizers using TracTrac in orientering when it sucks every single time? It can’t be cheaper than gpsseuranta??
Tractrac has signed a partnership with the IOF for live GPS.
I hope that it will soon end, it is often not working, and even when working the software is definitly not as good as gpseuranta…
Anyone having any luck with TracTrac? Worked for a while, but now down? It’s quite awesome to follow long distance with gpsseuranta, not so much with TracTrac…
They had server capacity problems and they took off public tracking to be able to show it on TV
The live results seems to be totally screwed today …
… and TracTrac seems to be “dead” today as well …
Seems to work well here for now…
Thanks Jan,
IOF has still not enabled the links, though …
Oh, nowadays one searches for sponsored banners rather than control points. Why didn’t they place a car in the middle of the forest – it’s an SUV.
IMO, a great long distance course, but I am not sure about the mediocre distance.
Is the element of luck too dominant, especially at control points 15M and 16M?
Is there a need to make the middle course physically as demanding as it was in Switzerland?
Anyway, the terrain looks fantastic.
The sponsored banners at an easy leg on the top of the treeless mountain on the middle distance might not be that big a deal to me, but part from that they are really ugly and affecting the competition in a negative way in other places.
It´s very annoying that the relay starts at 12:35 and the Web TV at 13:00pm….
