World of O News
This third Bonus Leg in the 2016 edition of Route to Christmas is from Austria – from the Austrian Championships Long 2016 organized at June 4th 2016. Thanks to course setter Martin Veitsberger for the tip!
The leg is as usually first provided without routes – you may take a look at it and think about how you would attack this leg (if the image is too small, you may click on it to get it larger). The race area is between 850 and 950 masl, and is known as “the Scandinavia of Austria”. The terrain is very varied – some very runnable areas and some slow areas. In addition there are many paths and roads. A lot of rain in the period before the race made the ground wet and heavy, and there is partly quite high blueberry-bushes in the terrain making running slower.

The course setter comments that a lot of different routes were chosen, but several of the routes can be run in approximately equal time, i.e. it is more about making a choice which you can execute well with your abilities as an orienteer. It is interesting to see that you can go that far around to the left, and still run the leg well.
