achiev2017_plakat_sponsors

Suggest a nomination for the Orienteering Achievement of 2017 and win great prizes! Remember that we are not necessarily looking for the best orienteer/team of 2017 – but rather the best achievements. There is one class for men and one for women – juniors can also be suggested, the same goes for teams.

Among all really good nomination texts, we will draw one or two of the great sponsor prizes (prizes valued to more than 5500 Euro – more about the prizes below in the sponsor section). The number of prizes drawn will depend on the number of nomination suggestions being posted. Many suggestions = more prizes drawn. Good nomination text & story = high chance to win.

To get you started, see the nominees for 2016 along with their stories/nomination texts here:

EOC Sprint Relay 2023: Maps, Results and Quick Analysis

Sweden won a clear victory in the European Championships (EOC) Sprint Relay ahead of Switzerland ...

  1. If we talk about an achievement, it’s an obligation to say Thierry Gueorgiou! He was clearly not the best orienteerer anymore, overpast by the young generation.
But what he did for his last individual races is just amazing ! Winning the middle distance again, his biggest goal (dream?) after struggling the last years is very inspiring! Even more impressive when you remember the world cup in Finland two months before the WOC where he was far from the level expected!
In my point of view there is no suspense for the men class! Thierry clearly did the Orienteering Achievement of the Year!

  2. Definitely the best orienteering team of 2017 – IFK Göteborg. They were unstoppable this year! Winning both biggest relays – Jukola & Tiomila.
Leading in 10mila relay from 6th leg till end shows how stable is the team. They handled the pressure on them as well in Jukola relay when they were leading already from 2nd leg. At that time everyone in the Jukola arena thought are they so strong to keep it up till end and win again? But YES, they showed the world that they really are the best team right now.
They showed how good they are in 25Manna again leading all the relay and losing only in the last legs but still finished in 2nd position! This is very stable and perfect team performance only possible with hard team work!

  3. Viktor Larsson first out, first in and all alone on the second leg of 10mila. That’s the dream!

  4. Norges VM-gull lag for herrer med Eskil Kinneberg, Olav Lundanes og Magne Dæhli bør nomineres til konkurransen om beste prestasjon 2017.
Suveren stafettløping for andre VM på rad.

  5. I nominate Thierry Gueorgiou’s WOC Middle Distance for this year’s best achievement. The Frenchman dominated the Orienteering world during the last ~10 years and that’s why he is also known as the king of orienteering. He, however, had some struggles during the last 3 years and he didn’t manage to get a podium at WOC middle distances and one started to believe if Thierry would be ever back on top again, as he is already quite old for a sportsman. This season started not as expected for Thierry and he got “only” 19th at the Middle Distance World Cup in Finland and he said that this year’s WOC would be his last one. Thus, the pressure on Thierry was really big. Nevertheless, Thierry managed to perform an excellent run in a very technical demanding WOC middle distance and he surprised the Orienteering world with a victory in his last individual race at WOC. I can’t imagine a more beautiful way to end such a successful orienteering career.

  6. Thanks for all the great suggestions! Now we close for new suggestions and prepare the voting!

  7. Yannick Michiels – because he puts Belgium on the international O-map (pun intended). After all those years of training and with some disappointments, he kept going and got finally some reward for that!
