1. Live TV with 14 cameras & micro – 2006-11-20
The plans for the TV coverage for the World Cup race in Hovden during O-festivalen 2007 were gigantic, when considering that this is an orienteering event. Norway’s largest commercial TV channel, TV2, had really ambitious plans for the race at Hovden. The plan was to spend 200.000 euros – three times the amount spent for […]Published at World of O
2. 2 x Czech Champions with impressive runs – 2006-08-16
Michal Smola and Dana Brozkova made
two impressive runs, and both won the long distance in the World University
Championships today with large margins. For Smola, it was the second WUOC
victory in a row – he was defending champion from Plzen 2004. A victory
in the WUOC tasted good for Smola, after being just outside the medals in the
long distance at WOC in Denmark less than two weeks ago.
Brozkova won the bronze medal at the long distance in Denmark, and showed
here in Plesivec that she has…

3. World-Cup finals on target… – 2006-09-28
In the beginning of September, I signed for a very good contract with the police-force. I will represent the “Gendarmerie française” during the major military competitions (World and French championships). The deal is really interesting since I got a monthly salary and still can go on with my studies during that period (one year contract, repeatable 5 times). I have no military obligation like staying at the garrison house or military instruction. My first military competition will be the World…

5. Analysis of Micro-O at Norwegian Champs Middle – 2006-08-28

Some like Micro-O – some not. Micro-O is – however – not dead, even
if it was not included in the WOC program for 2006.
The World Cup
event at Hovden 22/6/2007 is planned as a middle distance with
Micro-O, and strong forces within the orienteering movement are still
working on further developing the Micro-O concept – either as a part
of the middle distance as today, or as a part of other distances like
the long distance or the relay.

No training – but important for outcome
Several of the T…

7. Gold for Switzerland and Great Britain at WUOC relay … – 2006-08-19

… but the Slovakian home team winning silver medals seemed
to be happiest men in todays WUOC relay at Soroska in Slovakia.
Both relays were very tight and exciting all the way until the
finish – and nothing was certain about the gold medals
until Matthias Merz crossed the
finish line first for the swiss men and Helen Bridle secured the
gold medals for the british women only a few meters in front of
swiss anchor Seline Stadler.

Tight fight on the last leg

10. Krepsta and Hagman winners at the WUOC middle distance – 2006-08-17

Simonas Krepsta and Line Hagman won the middle distance at the World
University Championships in Slovakia today. Whereas he Lithuanian
Krepsta – who some
will remember as the winner of one of the Elitserien races this spring –
did a magnificent run, and had nearly 2 minutes margin down to French
Philippe Adamski in second spot and Norwegian Stig Alvestad in third
spot – the race in the women class was much tigher. The Norwegian
Line Hagman – won only 13 seconds before Russian Larisa Stanche…

15. Orient’Show’s first experience – 2006-11-26
After the Military World Championships, where I had the results which corresponded to my shape and motivation after a loooong season, I ran the last competition of the 2006 season near Lille this week-end (very northern part of France). Maybe it is better to call this competition the first one of the next season, because I didn’t train much since the CISM, and will start again the serious training in a couple of days. This competition was the first Orient’show organized in France and also my fi…

19. Air France crash… – 2006-08-04
…on the 4th control of today’s middle distance final. My race started quite well and I was controlling my orienteering also well. But I took the wrong decision when I was “lost” in the slope of the 4th control. I was looking for the flatter area very close to the control, but I never saw that one and decided to run down. For the first time since 2003, I did a severe mistake in a big championship at middle distance. C’est la vie! Then, my race was over, I tried anyway “to survive” and to finish …

23. Life goes on… – 2006-08-21
With the disappointment of my WOC results, I was down in the dumps. It will surely take couple of months to forget these unpleasant memories. At the moment, I can see only one really positive point of this WOC week: Thanks to HH. Johansen, it will be very easy to find the motivation for tough trainings this winter. I will never never forget my feelings when I crossed the celebrating Norwegian in the run in. I am hungry again.
