Simone Niggli ran a fantastic last leg and took the victory for Switzerland in the WOC Relay in Lausanne, Switzerland today! Helena Jansson served Swedish junior Tove Alexandersson a one minute lead out on the last leg, but after a 90 second mistake on the first control, Niggli was in the lead and never gave the lead away again!
Niggli could then celebrate the victory with Ines Brodmann and Judith Wyder – who both performed very well in the fast Swiss forest.
Merja Rantanen on the Finnish winner team from last year made a big mistake on the second leg – and thus Minna Kauppi did not get the possibility to fight for the medals on the last leg. Instead the most interesting fight of the day was between Norway’s Anne Margrethe Hausken and Russia’s Tatiana Riabkina. Both made several mistakes – but in the end Hausken was stronger and secured the first and only medal for the Norwegian women in this championships.
