WoO Christmas O-Quiz: Day 5 2012

routeto_5_s

You can’t go wrong by pulling out the compass and running straight here, can you? But can you guess where in the world this map is from? The WorldofO Christmas O-Quiz gives you one map sample each day from December 1st until December 24th. You get one point for each day you guess the correct country for the map sample – can you make it all the way to 24?

Fill out your name, e-mail address and your guess for the country below! For a given day, only answers given between 05:00 CET and 23:59 CET on that day will be counted in the overall score. That means that even if you fill out the form on a later day, your answer will not be counted… You are only allowed to answer ONCE each day!

Correct answer yesterday: Austria

Hard to miss this when it’s my own route choices on the map ;)

The correct answer yesterday was Austria! This was obviously a tricky one – but you all converged towards the right area. 111 chose Austria, 94 Switzerland and 45 Italy. The course shown is from the 4th Day of Tyrol 6 Days 2010 at Waldraster Jöchl. A beautiful area with interesting orienteering. Some comments from today:

  • Hard to miss this when it’s my own route choices on the map ;)
  • I did a 10 minutes mistake here on 6-Days of Tyrol 2010. My control was placed wrong – but just five meters above the right place in the slope. I will never forget my anger I had that day and how much I hated orienteering after that terrible mistake…
  • Italy, Switzerland or Austria I am sure of. Which one? It’s close to impossible to know without having seen the map before. [Italy was chosen. Such a pity.]
  • I was very fast down the summer-rodel-track, wich is marked as forbidden area on this map sample.
  • Looks like Wyoming’s Vedauwoo rock area in the Medicine Bow National Forest. [USA]
  • From the finish you can take this rodelbahn down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87aL3ifVKZM

Not all of you hit the jackpot on Day 4 – here is the overview over tips:
