Portugal offered interesting challenges and nice terrain for the participants in the European Youth Orienteering Championships in Obidos, Portugal. Three races were offered – a sprint on Friday, Long distance Saturday and Relay on Sunday. The main categories are M18/W18, but there is also competition in M16 and W16.

Sweden and Switzerland were most successful at EYOC – with Sara Hagström (Sweden) and Tobia Pezzati (Switzerland) both winning two individual gold medals in W18/M18. Switzerland took another Gold medal with Simona Aebersold (W16, Sprint), whereas Finland (Olli Ojanaho, M16 – both sprint and long) and Denmark (Josefine Lind, W16, Long) took the other individual victories. Relay victories went to Finland (M18), Sweden (W18), Russia (M16) and Czech Republic (W16).

For further information about the EYOC races, see articles at the Portuguese Orienteering Blog (Long / Sprint).
