A real long distance with 3 minutes start interval on Saturday and a technical middle distance on Sunday – that is what awaits the athletes at the second World Cup round of the season in southern Spain. Both races can be followed via GPS-tracking and live internet TV.
The other top names missing can watch it on TV and we’re sure they will be a little “envious”
Several teams/runners have decided to skip this World Cup round due to the “awkward” placement in the race calendar – one week ahead of the European Championships in Portugal. On the other hand this is good preparation for the championships. But to say it like the organizers phrase it on their Twitter account: – We’ve made an important effort, so we hope the athletes who joinWorld Cup Spain enjoy the races. The other top names missing can watch it on TV and we’re sure they will be a little “envious”.
There are no qualification races in this World Cup round – that means all athletes go directly to the finals.

Interesting terrain
Based on the old map and the terrain description in the Bulletin, it looks like these will be very interesting competition. Below the terrain descriptions are included. You find the old map of part of the competition area here.
Long distance
It presents extensive details highlighted by a number of valleys, hills, gullies, etc.., caused by water erosion. The slope is generally moderate, although in some areas steep, but short (with a maximum slope of 70 m.). The details of the cut rock are mostly caused by erosion. The forest consists of pine, with open and semi open areas. Undergrowth consists of Rosemary, Esparto and other vegetation, predominate… In general, the vegetation will not be a condition of running speed. There are also some cultivated areas connected by roads. On the ground there are small footpaths that are not drawn on the map, caused by the passage of animals. The great variety of terrain will make route choice crucial for a good result, not to mention the abundance of details that requires detailed map reading to avoid errors.
In women class from World ranking top 50 just 20 girls are presented.
including 8 Swedish and 4 Russian girls. Also Spain uses full quota. Other nations don’t use full quota and have sent just few runners (Denmark does not send anyone). I am scary to think about World Cup event in Tasmania next year. How many runners will be presented their??
Exactly 20 men have entered from top 50 in the men World Rank.
Thanks for your considerations. We all know that the current World Cup schedule is not ideal; now there is no good overall plan. My hope is that we will have a much better World Cup from 2016 at least…
Just saw in a Norwegian newspaper that the men’s long distance has been annulled (due to an organizer mistake). On the GPS it looked like some of the men got the women’s map as last loop …
Controls missing (control 22 and 23 according to split times), but still waiting for more info. This is all there is for now:
Men’s class voided – more information on the IOF website shortly.

Is it even ok to collect public race controls during world cup race? Equal conditions (=extra controls in forest) to everyone etc.
Hey!
I’m trying to watch the Live-TV of the worldcup but it’s not showing any video on livestream. Am I the only one with the problem?
Thanks for your help!

Neither GPS-traking, nor Live-TV. Live results only. Ukraine.
