Jukola – the largest orienteering relay in the world is even larger this year – 21.500 is a record number of competitors for the men’s relay Jukola and the women’s relay Venla! Start of the Jukola relay is Saturday at 22:00 CET (23:00 local time). 9 hours earlier at 13:00 CET the women start their relay. Here you find all the information you need about the Jukola and Venla relays. This is the 71st edition of the Jukola relay and the 42nd edition of the Venla relay.
Jukola 2019 is organized close to Tampere – and there will again be a high quality international webTV-broadcast available from both the Jukola and Venla relays (Euro 18.-). Live stream footage is offered in English, including high quality GPS service and experienced sportscasters. You can also view realtime results and watch interviews with top athletes.
2018: Koovee & Stora Tuna
A look in the back-mirror to the 2018 edition: Oleksandr Kratov took Koovee from a 12th place at +5:46 to a 1:18 lead on the 4th leg – beating IFK Göteborg’s runner with 7 minutes. Kenny Kivikas increased the lead to more than 3 minutes on the 5th leg – and Timo Sild managed to keep a big enough lead on the 6th leg for Daniel Hubmann to run out alone – and decide the race in another battle for a relay victory with IFK Göteborg’s Eskil Kinneberg. In the end IFK Göteborg finished as the second best team 4 minutes behind Koovee, with Paimion Rasti in third after a good last leg by Olav Lundanes.
Stora Tuna won the 2018 Venla relay ahead of Göteborg Majorna and MS Parma after a very strong last leg by Tove Alexandersson. Alexandersson was nearly 5 minutes faster than her competitors on the last leg – catching 3 minutes on the leaders already halfways and from there only speeding away.

Map and terrain
The Kangasala-Jukola competition terrain is variable backwoods where altitude difference between the lowest and highest point is about 80 meters. There are only few trails by human tramping but, due to logging and forestry, machine made ruts are seen broadly. The runability of the terrain varies a lot. Trees are mostly young resulting in limited visibility.
Here is a route choice leg on the Ponsa-terrain from the Jukola-organizers to get you prepared for the tasks ahead:

Thanks for giving us “all you need to know” articles. Appreciated. Small typo in the resume of last years Jukola. Timo Sild was running leg six for Koovee.
Thanks for your comment, very nice that somebody tells me about typos. And thanks for the praise:)
Hi Jan or anyonelse
I was looking for the replay of the live tv of Jukola 2018 but I can”t find it. Do you know if it is available somewhere?
Thanks
MB: Actually I don’t think it is available like it is for 10mila, at least I have not found it. Somebody else aware of this?
