Minna Kauppi and Andrey Khramov took the victories in the World Games sprint today. Kauppi took a clear victory ahead of Hanny Allston and Elise Egseth – whereas Khramov had a hard fight with Daniel Hubmann, finishing off only 4 tenths of a second ahead of Hubmann. Tero Föhr took the mens Bronze medal.
The long leg to the 5th control was an important leg in this sprint course (see map below). The passage over the river just south of the 5th control is very difficult to spot. Hubmann saw it and run straight, whereas Khramov run a far left and lost 10 seconds. Until the last part of the course, it looked like Hubmann had the gold medal in his pocket, but Khramov run faster and picked second by second – finally beating Hubmann by less than a second in the end.
