Comeback for Allston – Revenge for Hubmann. Hanny Allston has done a real comeback here at the World Games with Gold medal at the middle distance today and Silver medal at the sprint yesterday. Hubmann was beaten by less than a second yesterday – today he took revenge and run away from everybody – including Khramov.
The middle distance was actually a long sprint course – and thus the typical sprinters had an advantage. There were a lot of route choice possibilities as you can see on the map below. In the womens class – Hanny Allston, the gold medalist from WOC sprint 2006, set an early best time. Not even the late starter and big favourite Minna Kauppi could beat her, and it ended in Gold for Hanny Allston. Now we’ve really got to look out for Allston in the World Championships in Hungary in August! Sweden got Bronze with Linne Gustafsson.
In the mens class, Daniel Hubmann showed that he is currently that he is currently the worlds best orienteer. After being beaten with less than a second by Khramov in the sprint yesterday, he simply run away from all the other runners in the middle distance today. His speed in the last part of the race was really impressing. Two medals for Russia: Khramov got silver and Tsvetkov Bronze.
