The women’s class got very interesting in the final race in the Swedish League chasing start on Sunday. Before the start the task looked impossible for Tove Alexandersson – starting 12 minutes behind leader – Danish Emma Klingenberg – but in the end it got very close.
In the men’s class Gustav Bergman decided early and increased his 2 minute lead to a 5 minute victory. With Jonas Leandersson starting second having a bad day, Bergman could surf into overall victory ahead of Olle Boström (starting as number three) and Jonas Leandersson.
Tight women’s race
In the women’s class it was a lot tighter. Klingenberg had a lead of 12(!) minutes to one of the fastest and strongest women orienteers in the world – Tove Alexandersson – at the start of the chasing start. Alexandersson chased well, but never quite caught up with Klingenberg. She did come as close as 1:07 behind in the end though – deciding the fight for second place against a group consisting of herself and Anna Bachman and Josefine Engström.
– I did not think about the result, I just wanted to have flow in my orienteering. I did not have any focus on chasing Emma, Tove Alexandersson commented to orientering.se. – I had some small mistakes though, Alexandersson commented.
Klingenberg’s race was only good enough for a 21st place in the day ranking – but the strong Danish runner still managed to catch the prestigious overall victory in Swedish League.
