Helena Jansson and Albin Ridefelt took the victories in the Swedish Championships long which was organized with qualification Saturday and finals Sunday. Jansson crushed the competition – winning more than 7 minutes ahead of reigning World Champion middle distance Annika Billstam.
In the men’s class Ridefelt’s victory was also clear – 1:50 ahead of Rassmus Andersson.
Jansson in her own class
After struggling with injuries all winter and spring, Helena Jansson has was not able to run more than 35-40 minutes early this summer. Now Jansson is obviously on the way to be fully recovered, winning the 80 minute Swedish Championships long 7:02 ahead of Annika Billstam with Alva Olsson (Linköpings Orienteringsklubb) in 3rd at 7:23. Helena Jansson won 6 of 19 legs – and lost 27 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs. Moa Leijon Lind took the lead at the first control. Helena Jansson took over the lead at control 2 of 19 controls and kept it until the finish. Annika Billstam in second had an estimated time loss of 4:45, the largest being 2:05 (leg 3).
Ridefelt with higher speed
Albin Ridefelt (OK Linné) won 1:50 minutes ahead of Rassmus Andersson (OK Linné) with Filip Dahlgren (IFK Lidingö) in 3rd at 2:55. Albin Ridefelt won 10 of 26 legs while doing several minutes of time losses. Second placed Rassmus Andersson lost 41 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs – that was least of all runners in this race.
Looking at the timelosses due to mistakes (estimated) during the race, one can see that Ridefelt lost significant time to controls 2 (mistake within control circle), 6 (mistake within control circle) and 9 (wrong routechoice, see leg below under “Maps”). Note also how Filip Dahlgren had good speed but made significant mistakes.
Gustav Bergman would normally have been among the top favourites, but has struggled with some kind of illness lately and abandoned the race.
Maps & GPS-tracking
There were some complaints in the Swedish Champs this weekend about the courses being too easy with two much running on paths and roads – especially for the qualification races on Saturday. There were however several interesting route choices – for example the longest leg to control number 9 where Ridefelt did not take the correct route choice (see below for Ridefelt vs Andersson – more routes for this leg at the top of the article).
Below you find the courses from Sunday’s final – including GPS-tracking.
