Map samples

A few of the event organizers have added map samples in World of O Calendar – take a look below to see map samples for some of the Top Picks of June 2010. Many organizers did not bother to upload maps (e.g. the Norwegian O-Festival and Idre O-week from the picks of this month) – thanks to the organizers who did take some time to give that service to the users of World of O Calendar!

Personal Picks

The most important focus of the top orienteering elite in June is to finish the European Champs in Bulgaria – and then get a training period or some national events ahead of the Jukola relay and the Nordic Orienteering Tour. Some might even make it to Trondheim Open as part of their preparation for the World Orienteering Championships or to Suunto Games the weekend ahead of the Jukola relay. There are – however – also other enjoyable events in June:

  • If you want to combine great nature with orienteering in June, the two best options in my opinion are the 6 Days of North and South Tyrol and the Idre O-week. Both start at the 27th of June, so you’ll have to choose one of them. Both events give you fantastic mountain areas and very interesting and tricky orienteering.
  • Another interesting orienteering event is TAKAS 2010 – a 4 day event which is the biggest international orienteering event in Lithuania.
  • The Norwegian O-Festival is Norway’s biggest orienteering event, and actually also the last part of the Nordic Orienteering Tour. The O-Festival is further north than it has been for some years – not far from Lillehammer, in interesting and technically challenging terrain. Possible to combine with Idre O-week if you skip either the relay at the O-Festival or the Fjäll-OL at Idre O-week, and are willing to drive about 250 kilometers.

Here are some more events in table form – for all events see the World of O Calendar.
