Swiss+Austrian Sprint Champs: Wyder and Hertner

Wyder and Hertner were on top when the last Swiss World Cup selection race – the Swiss + Austrian Sprint Champs – was organized in Austria.

In the women’s class retired Simone Niggli finished in 2nd place – 11 seconds behind Wyder – with Julia Gross and Silje Ekroll Jahren (NOR) in the next places. In the men’s class Daniel Hubmann was closest to Hertner – 8 seconds behind – with Matthias Kyburz another 3 seconds behind.

Men: 14 of 31 legs for Hertner

Fabian Hertner won 14 of 31 legs and did nearly no mistakes. On the other hand Daniel Hubmann had the most constant race – losing 5 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs – that was least of all runners in this race.  Looking at the performance index, Hertner had a small edge ahead of Hubmann and Kyburz. It may look like this was not the most tricky sprint – and/or the Swiss runners have a fantastic sprint shape these days.

Women: Wyder and Niggli

Looking at the women’s class, Wyder and Niggli had very similar performance – except for Niggli’s 11 second time loss at control 5 (a one minute leg). Niggli was in the lead before the 5th control – but from there and on it was Wyder in the lead.  Judith Wyder won 8 of 25 legs.
