The Norwegian and Swiss national teams are in Scotland preparing for the World Orienteering Championships this week. Saturday they ran the Scottish Championships long distance.
The women’s class was won by Norwegian Silje Ekroll Jahren while Swiss Daniel Hubmann won the men’s class. Hollie Orr (Great Britain) was only 2 seconds from the victory in the women’s class. The Scottish championships continue with realy on Sunday.
Men: Hubmann best in the long run
Daniel Hubmann (Switzerland) won 3:34 minutes ahead of Magne Dæhli (Norway) with Eskil Kinneberg (Norway) in 3rd at 3:37. Daniel Hubmann won 9 of 23 legs and did less than a minute of mistakes. Martin Vister took the lead at the first control and stayed in front until control 2. The race lead then changed between Eskil Kinneberg (leading at the 3rd control), Daniel Hubmann (leading from the 4th to 6th control, losing 31 seconds and the lead at the 7th) and Eskil Kinneberg (leading from the 7th to 9th control, losing 30 seconds and the lead at the 10th) until Daniel Hubmann took over the lead at control 10 of 23 controls and kept it until the finish.
Women’s class: Wyder started best – Ekroll Jahren won tight finish
Judith Wyder took the lead at the first control and stayed in front until control 2. The race lead then changed between Hollie Orr (leading from the 3rd to 4th control, losing 1:03 at the 5th control and falling down to 7th place), Silje ekroll Jahren (leading from the 5th to 22nd control) and Hollie Orr (leading from the 23rd to 24th control) until Silje ekroll Jahren took over the lead at control 25 of 25 controls. Wigemyr Tone (NORWAY) lost 53 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs – that was least of all runners in this race.
