Bergman and Jansson win Swedish Champs Middle

smmiddlemen

Gustav Bergman has struggled with his shape lately, but showed in the Swedish Championships Middle that he can still perform on a top level. With a stable race Bergman took the title 4 seconds ahead of Albin Ridefelt.

In the women’s class Helena Jansson had higher speed than the others – just as at the Swedish Champs long last weekend. Even with some mistakes her margin down to Nadiya Volynska in second was nearly a minute.

Tight fight between Top 3

Gustav Bergman (OK Ravinen) won 4 seconds ahead of Albin Ridefelt (OK Linné) with Oleksandr Kratov (OK Orion) in 3rd at 0:34. These three runners where in a different class than the rest of the start field.

Gustav Bergman won only 3 of 22 legs – but on the other hand lost only 11 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs – a very stable race. Several of the top runners were in contact with other runners during the race. Gustav Bergman (1st) was in contact with Rassmus Andersson (9th) for 14 controls (3 controls behind). Albin Ridefelt (2nd) was in contact with Emil Svensk (7th) for 13 controls (9 controls behind). Jonas Leandersson (4th) was in contact with Eric Börjeskog (26th) for 8 controls (3 controls behind).

Of the ones further down on the list, note how Ruslan Glebov and Emil Svensk had high speed.

Helena Jansson won 6 of 17 and lost 29 seconds or less to the leg winner on all legs. Helena Jansson had an estimated time loss of 1:00, the largest being 24 seconds (leg 4).

Several of the top runners were in contact with other runners during the race. Helena Jansson (1st) was in contact with Josefine Engström (4th) for 6 controls (Jansson was always in front). Nadiya Volynska (2nd) was in contact with Karolina Højsgaard (6th) for 14 controls (3 controls behind).

Above you see the longest leg in the men’s course. As usually in a Swedish Middle distance the fastest is to go fairly straight – but the runners still spread out quite nicely. Below are links to maps and GPS-tracking for the men’s and women’s A-final.
