Routechoice comparison: EOC Long Qual

There were some legs where the runners had to decide between different routechoice options in the EOC Long Qualification 2008. However, the differences in running time for the different routechoices do not seem to be very significant based on routechoices of the best runners. It seems like the most important thing is to take a choice, and follow your choice with fast and good orienteering. The time differences between the best runners are mostly due to orienteering mistakes.

The lack of real routechoice problems is quite typical for these qualification runs in the championships – the courses are typically also a lot easier than the runners experience in the finals. Hopefully we will see some bigger challenges in the finals!

Selected legs

We start with a few legs were there were significant differences in routechoices – and conclude with more legs below.

More legs – for completeness

Below, routechoices for more legs are compared. Most of these legs are not that interesting from a routechoice comparison viewpoint – but it may still be interesting to see what kind of choices the World Orienteering Elite took for these legs.
