… with live video streaming and GPS tracking. These are the four last starters in the World Games sprint to be held at the coming Friday July 17th in Kaohsiung, and the World Games websited promises both live video streaming and GPS tracking. The start lists are now available, and there are a lot of strong runners both in the mens and womens classes.

For the orienteers, the World Games consists of three events:

International multi-sport event

The World Games is an international multi-sport event held every fourth year under the auspices of the IWGA. The World Games is organised under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOF has been a member of the International World Games Association since 1995. In 2001 orienteering made its debut on the program of The World Games held in Akita, Japan.

The programme of The 8th World Games 2009 Kaohsiung includes competitions in 26 official sports and in 5 sports on the invitational program – altogether more sports than ever before. More than 5000 athletes and officials are expected to participate in the competitions that will take place at 24 different venues in Kaohsiung and Kaohsiung County.

The orienteering events will be organised at Chengcing Lake and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.

  1. I have now included the old maps on the web site. Please, enjoy.
They will – of course – be changed to the maps and courses of The World Games competitions after the events (Middle distance after the Relay, though, due the use of the same terrain twice).

  2. @Kell: Thanks! I update the article with the old maps now. Good to see that the IT part of the World Games is in good hands!

  3. Taiwan uses a special calendar.
“nian 0″ means year 1911, the year of the revolution.
“nian 94″ means year 2005 rather than 1994.
So the old maps are actually quite new and I would expect little changes. In the Sprint terrain, there was some construction in the SW part in early 2007. And Cheng-Ching Lake has now been mapped using ISSOM2007.

  4. when is the competition taking place according to central european time?

  5. @Adem: Should be at 08:00 CET for the women and 09:00 CET for the men.
