Minna Kauppi, Heli Jukkola and Helena Jansson won the three womens heats, whereas Michal Smola, Emil Wingstedt and Jamie Stevenson won the three mens heats.
Only 7% behind to get to the final in mens class – between 10% and 13% in womens class. Lower figures than in recent chamionships – probably due to quite easy orienteering.
Several excellent runners missed the final in the mens class – maybe due to quite easy sprint? Damien Renard: I am a little sad because I was running well and had to face 2 maps imperfections but I was not clever enough to see them. It was an entrance on a fence to control 6 which was difficult to see on the terrain. I entered the forbidden garden instead. Ivan Sirakov This morning it was the first race of EOC – sprint qualification and the final is afternoon. I made few mistakes – about 15secs and missed the final for 3 seconds. I wasn`t able to push it as hard as I want but still it was not a disaster. I will run the B-final at full speed and hope to make it better. [ read more and see his map ]

Christian Teich: – Nun bin ich in Lettland angekommen. Das Modelevent versprach sehr viel für die bevorstehenden Wettkämpfe. Leider lief es in der Qualifikation zum Sprint nicht so gut wie erhofft. Karin Leonardt Insgesamt lagen (wahrscheinl auch wegen des relat. einfachen Geländes und sehr vielen überhaupt fehlerfreien Läufen von vielen Wettkämpfen) die Cuts für das A-Finale viel niedriger als auch schon. Waren es bei der EM vor zwei Jahren bei den Frauen zum Beispiel im Durchscnnitt 17% (je nach Heat sogar bis zu 24%) die man sich erlauben durfte lag heute der Cut zwischen 10% und 13 % Rückstand hinter der Siegerzeit (bei den Herren beide Male im Durchschnitt 7%).
