LIVE Sunday – Friday: Only a selected few of the World Championships favourites are on the start list in the orienteering race with the biggest money prizes in the sport. The ones on the start – including most of the Swedish WOC team and Norwegian Anne Margrethe Hausken Nordberg – will get 5 days of great orienteering in 6 days, finishing only one week before the World Championships in Scotland starts.
With 80.000 SEK (around 9.000 Euro) for overall victory, 50.000 SEK for second place and money prizes all the way down to 10th place overall – add to that a 5.000 SEK for a day win – O-Ringen is probably the best place to earn money as an orienteer if you have the skills – and manage to compete on the highest level 5 days in different disciplines.
Overall favourites
Overall favourites in the men’s class are Baptiste Rollier (not selected for the Swiss WOC-team – hungry for his first O-Ringen victory; picture above from back at WOC 2011 in France where he finished 4th at the long distance), Swedish William Lind (if he will run maximum every day – he is also among the WOC favourites), Norwegian Eskil Kinneberg (not selected for the Norwegian WOC team – had a very good sprint season though) along with several strong Swedish elite runners on the start list.
Overall favourites in the women’s class are Simone Niggli (Swiss runner retired from international elite orienteering, but is still on par with the very best on her best days – stability is more the problems these days), Annika Billstam (if she will run maximum every day – also among WOC outsiders although her spring season has not been 100%), Anne Margrethe Hausken Nordberg (also among the favourites at WOC) along with several other strong Swedish and Norwegian elite runners on the start list.
