Polish Champs Long: Olejnik fastest in tricky slopes

Last weekend the Polish Championship in Long distance took place in Jakuszyce – a well known cross country skiing center in Poland. Winners and Polish champions were Michal Olejnik and Daniela Cepova. 

In the men’s class there was a fight between three of the top runners in Polish orienteering – Michal Olejnik, Wojcieck Kowalski and young Piotr Parfianowicz – junior World Champion from 2013 Long distance in Czech Republic. Michal Olejnik decided the race after 107 minutes of running – 2:40 ahead of Kowalski with Parfianowicz another 3 minute behind.

Men: Important long leg to 3rd control

Olejnik took the inititative in the race with a good long leg to the third control (see screenshot from GPS below) – a leg were both Parfianowicz and Kowalski had trouble. Parfianowicz took a slow routechoice and had trouble in the slope towards the control. Kowalski on the other hand made a significant mistake, approaching the control too far up in the slope. Kowalski had a good last part of the race, but it was not enough to take the victory.
